Pupils at Wednesfield Technology Primary visited St Thomas’ Church in Wednesfield as part of their religious education lessons, which explore a range of religions and places of worship. Following a recent trip to the local Gurdwara, the children were introduced to key elements of Christian practice.
During the visit, pupils explored the church’s pulpit and baptismal font and learned about the different types of clothing worn by clergy and the symbolism behind them. The also learned about the Easter story and its significance for Christians.
School Principal, Claire Keeler, said: “Visiting different places of worship helps our pupils understand the traditions and values that shape people’s lives. Seeing a church up close and hearing its stories shows them how beliefs guide everyday actions. It also sparks curiosity, fosters empathy and builds respect, helping our children grow into thoughtful and confident members of a diverse community.”
The visit formed part of the school’s wider religious education programme, which introduces pupils to a range of world faiths and beliefs. As a result, children develop a deeper understanding of different cultures and traditions while recognising the shared values that bring communities together.
